There’s nothing more fascinating than history.
And one of the more fascinating aspects for me is the history of really bad jobs.
It’s instructive, especially when you meet folks who gripe about how difficult their present-day jobs are.
Tough jobs?
Sure, the hours are easy but there is considerable downside.
But one of the toughest jobs, it seems to me, was to be an “envoy.”
Particularly for the up-and-coming Mongol Empire.
It’s important to note the “up-and-coming” part.
Once the empire was firmly established and it became clear in the latter 13th century that the Mongols were not the kind of folks with which to trifle the job of envoy got a great deal easier.
