Covid-19 Ireland cases today: Further 315 confirmed with 62 people in hospital

A further 315 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed this afternoon.
Meanwhile 62 people are in hospitals with Covid-19, 22 of which are being treated in ICU.
The figures were confirmed by the Department of Health.
They come as concerns continue to be raised about the Delta variant and how it may affect Ireland s reopening plans.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has warned that tighter travel restrictions between Ireland and the UK may be need to stop the spread of the Delta variant here.
The Covid-19 Delta variant which was first identified in India has put huge concerns on plans to end lockdown in the UK due to its high level of transmission.

COVID-19 has become the leading cause of death in the U.S. in just the first month of 2021, according to a new study.
The study, which was published by the Peterson Center on Healthcare and the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), found that as of January 26, over 3,000 Americans per day died of COVID-19 during the month.
