Judith Collins is promising to reverse the Government s proposed new hate speech laws, calling them an attempt to control New Zealanders. On Friday the Government released a discussion document outlining six changes, which would clarify what s illegal, protect more minority groups, add a new criminal offence and increase the maximum penalties to three years in jail and $50,000 fines.

National leader Judith Collins has dismissed calls to cancel the film They Are Us about the Christchurch terror attack, centred on Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.  Collins said on Monday New Zealand is a free and democratic society and agreed with Magic Talk s Peter Williams that the filmmakers should not be stopped from producing it.  The Muslim community has lashed out at the filmmakers for not consulting them and for focusing it on a white woman. A petition launched on Friday seeking to have the project cancelled has gathered more than 58,000 signatures.

National leader Judith Collins has described a new implementation unit to oversee spending as a vote of no confidence by Grant Robertson in his Cabinet colleagues .  In his pre-Budget speech on Tuesday, Robertson said his boss Jacinda Ardern instructed him to set up the new unit within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to ensure money is being spent in the right places.  As well as keeping Kiwis safe from COVID-19, the Government is focused this term on accelerating the economic recovery and addressing big three long-term challenges : housing affordability, climate change and child wellbeing.

Judith Collins says she is absolutely against a separate health authority for Māori, despite outcomes being significantly poorer for them.  A major health reform was announced on Wednesday and with it, a new Māori health authority. But before the announcement, the National Party leader said she will not accept a separate but equal approach to health - despite Māori having significantly lower life expectancies, higher rates of smoking and being twice as likely to not pick up a prescription.
