“This morning at approximately 10:48 a.m., the Kearny Police Department received a call reporting a body in the Passaic River in the area behind 175 Passaic Ave. Police and fire officials responded and recovered the body of a deceased adult male from the river,” King said.
He continued that the cause and manner of death are pending an examination by the Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, though the incident does not appear to have been criminal at this time.
King further stated that the identification of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and no further information was immediately available.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a hit-and-run incident in which a 44-year-old woman was struck and seriously injured while cycling on Routes 1 & 9 South in Kearny around this morning, County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.
The driver who struck her fled the scene and members of the Kearny Police Department responded to the area, which is near Jacobus Avenue, just before 8 a.m., on reports of a cyclist struck with serious injuries.
The victim, a 44-year-old Harrison woman, was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center, where she is listed in critical but stable condition.

Hudson County’s vaccination program is outpacing state expectations, having distributed roughly 70% of its first shipment of vaccines.
The county has received 1,700 doses of vaccines from the state, and as of Wednesday, had administered 1,160 of them at the Hudson Regional Health Commission’s vaccination site in Kearny. The state expected the county to have distributed 60% of its first shipment by now, officials said.
