PLANS have been revealed to potentially move a range of breast services from Warrington Hospital to Halton. The proposals will see breast assessment and symptomatic assessment services relocated to the Captain Sir Tom Moore Building at Halton Hospital as part of a reconfiguration. Under the plans, mammography breast screening services would be retained in Warrington, either at the hospital’s Kendrick Wing or Bath St Health and Wellbeing Centre, to enable all Warrington residents to continue to access screening in the town. Breast screening services would also continue unchanged at Halton Hospital, St Helens Hospital and at the mobile breast screening unit at all five current regular locations.
The efforts and determination of staff at Warrington and Halton hospitals has been recognised through a national award. The finance team at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has overcome unprecedented challenges over recent years, especially through the coronavirus pandemic. The team’s office was destroyed by a fire which severely damaged Warrington Hospital’s Kendrick Wing in 2018, resulting in them being dispersed across the trust for two and a half years as a result. Members had just returned together as team in their refurbished office space when the coronavirus pandemic hit, bringing with it a further set of demands and difficulties with little time to prepare.
