San Francisco teachers union endorses BDS movement – Mondoweiss

A United Educators of San Francisco march (Photo: Facebook) The United Educators of San Francisco has become the first American K-12 public school union to endorse the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS). The resolution passed on May 19, at the height of Israel’s recent assault on Gaza. J Weekly’s Gabriel Greschler reports that the resolution was submitted by ten educators working in San Francisco public schools and that it’s the first U.S. labor union to back the BDS movement since 2016. In addition to the attacks on Gaza, the resolution also references the forced displacement in Sheikh Jarrah, the raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and Israeli violence towards Palestinian protestors.

DiPierro Garners Local Labor Union Support – Everett Independent

Ward 3 City Councilor Anthony DiPierro has announced the endorsements of several local labor organizations for his re-election campaign this week. To date, his campaign has received the support of The Boston Carmen’s Union Local 589, Laborers Local 22, I.B.E.W Local 103, Carpenters Local 328, Heat & Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local 6, Iron Workers Local 7, Pipefitters Local 537, and Roofers Local 33.  In a letter to DiPierro, Local 589 Recording Secretary John Clancy said, “The Carmen’s Union feels very fortunate to have a friend of your stature and integrity running for re-election for Everett Council Ward 3. You will continue to be a great asset to the working men and women in the City of Everett.”

Historical Pine River, Backus yearbooks archived online | Pine and Lakes Echo Journal

Heritage Group North worked the past year to digitize every high school yearbook the group could find 3:00 am, Apr. 10, 2021 × Roofers Local 96 donated time and material to repair the roof of the historic caboose in Pine River in March 2021. Submitted Photo Yearbooks going back as far as 1936 are now available to view online for graduates of Pine River High School. Backus yearbooks going back to 1948 have also been digitized, as have all of the high school yearbooks under the merged school districts thanks to Heritage Group North, a Legacy grant and area residents. https://box2.nmtvault.com/HeritageGroupNorth/ Annette Houg said planning for digitization began nearly two years ago. HGN was awarded an $8,485 grant in July 2020, after which volunteers began gathering the yearbooks with the help of local residents and collectors.

Liberty roofers named in suit | News, Sports, Jobs

WARREN A Youngstown man has filed a civil action against a Liberty roofing company and a supervisor for wrongful termination and also accused the firm of discrimination and lacking in safety practices. The Trumbull County Common Pleas Court lawsuit filed on behalf of Andre Davis of 443 Aurora Drive, names as defendants TEMA Roofing Services LLC of Motor Inn Drive in Liberty and superintendent David Pugh. The suit originally was filed in December and was transferred from Mahoning County Common Pleas Court last week. It has been assigned to Judge Peter J. Kontos. The suit also charges the company with discrimination against the African-American former employee. The company also was accused of not giving Davis the proper progressive disciplinary steps before his firing on Sept. 12, 2019.
