NetOne fires Muchenje, again

Lazarus Muchenje NETONE has reinstated and for the second time fired its former chief executive officer, Lazarus Muchenje on alleged criminal abuse of duty charges. Muchenje who was dismissed from Netone on July 9 recently made an urgent chamber application at the High Court challenging his dismissal and an interim order was granted in his favour suspending the letter of termination. In dismissing Muchenje, NetOne served him with a letter advising him of termination of his contract. Muchenje today received a letter of withdrawal of the July termination which was signed by the acting chairperson Susan Mutangadura. In that letter, NetOne was advising Muchenje that they were withdrawing the July 9 dismissal and that he should await further communication.

The Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunset has started a disaster relief initiative to help the victims of Cyclone Yasa in the Northern Division. Community Service Director Prashant Anuraag says the initiative started after seeing the video footage of the destruction that was done by Yasa in the North. 93,000 Fijians were in the direct path of the cyclone. Anuraag says when he saw the video clip he decided to start an initiative to assist the families who have been badly affected by the cyclone.

Give couriers access to NID server | The Daily Star

To stop narcotics smuggling through national and international courier services, the Department of Narcotics Control has recommended National Identity Card server access for couriers. The anti-drug authority of Bangladesh came up with the idea after it found that transnational syndicates are using the couriers to smuggle drugs into the Middle East, America, Australia and some countries in Asia. Smuggling narcotics from neighbouring India and Myanmar, syndicates are using Bangladesh as a major transit route. In just five months from June this year, the DNC seized around 14 consignments of drugs meant to be sent to Saudi Arabia and the US by air, Rameshwar Das, assistant director (intelligence) of DNC, told The Daily Star yesterday.
