GJSD votes to approve HFM budget | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education approved items related to the Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Board of Cooperative Educations Services at its special meeting Wednesday night at the Knox Building. The board voted to approve the $3,747,908 BOCES administrative budget for the 2021-22 school year. The resolution stated that BOCES was also allowed to raise assessments to component school districts, non-component school districts, other BOCES, and other sources as deemed appropriate for the next school year. Component districts must separately approve such BOCES budgets on an annual basis. In other BOCES-related action, the Johnstown board approved three open seats for three-year terms on the HFM BOCES Board of Education. Approved for appointment were: Carmen Caraco of the Mayfield Central School District; Rebecca Cozzocrea of the Greater Amsterdam School District; and Matt Sullivan of the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District

Mount Morris CTE students among state champs in FBLA competition

MOUNT MORRIS – Six Computer Information Services students from the Mount Morris Career and Technical Education Center recently placed among the top five – with one first place award – in four categories at the New York State FBLA Competition. The students from Perry, Warsaw and Wayland-Cohocton submitted projects they have been working on for much of the year in the CIS class. These projects were judged against other students’ submissions from all across New York state. Participation in the competition is voluntary. Larry Harvey, CIS instructor at the Mount Morris CTE Center, noted how the students set a great example for their classmates.

Two COVID deaths noted; rise seen at BOCES | News, Sports, Jobs

etichy@post-journal.com Two more virus-related deaths, and 13 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, were reported Tuesday by the Chautauqua County Department of Health. After going nearly a month without a new death associated with the virus, the county has recorded four since Friday. The ages break down as follows: four between the ages of 40 and 49; five between 50 and 59; 15 between 60 and 69; 30 between 70 and 79; 56 between 80 and 89; and 36 over the age of 90. Of the new cases reported, from information collected Monday, seven have come from the Jamestown zip code, two in Mayville and one each in Dunkirk, Forestville, Bemus Point and Cassadaga. To date there have been 8,757 confirmed cases, 8,419 recoveries and 146 virus-related deaths. There are currently 192 active cases, 12 people with COVID in the hospital, 500 in quarantine and a seven-day positivity rate of 2.3%.
