A 34-year-old resident of Cairns, reportedly a Greek citizen on a working visa, was arrested last week over a series of alleged child exploitation offences.
The arrest led by the state’s specialist Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET) took place on Thursday 8 July, with the man, who was granted bail due to appear in court on 23 July.
As per the police media release the man has been charged with two counts of possessing child exploitation material and one count each of use a carriage service to transmit child abuse material, transmitted to himself child abuse material by using a carriage service, and possession of drug utensils.

Melbourne, May 17 : A former Australian state cricketer has been charged with possessing child abuse material and grooming a minor .
Aaron Summers, who represented Tasmania in state cricket, Hobart Hurricanes in Big Bash League and Deccan Gladiators in Abu Dhabi T10 league, was asked to appear before a court for the two charges. Aaron Summers, 25, appeared in front of the Darwin Local Court (Northern Territory), with police alleging that his mobile phone contained child abuse videos, said a report in The Age.
Summers, who is a fast bowler, was due to play NT Cricket 365 tournament, an event run by Cricket Australia and featuring many current and former state and BBL players.

Police lay charges – Child sex offences – Litchfield
Detectives from the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) arrested and charged a 53-year-old man in Virginia yesterday for a number of child sex offences.
Police allege that the man rented a spare room at a friend’s property in early 2019, and began grooming his friend’s 11-year-old daughter.
In July 2019, the victim and her family relocated to South Australia, and it is alleged that the man then established an online communication with her via social media.
On 12 May 2021, Northern Territory and Australian Federal Police executed search warrant on the man’s premises. They located the man in possession of a mobile device that contained significant amounts of communication with the victim that spanned over 12 months, which included him transferring child abuse material to her.
