State data shows low vaccination rates for staff at area nursing homes

Pennsylvania has been in Phase 2 of its vaccine rollout for weeks now, but while all residents in the commonwealth can now get a vaccine, some of Beaver County’s most vulnerable populations may still remain unprotected. The state Department of Health’s April survey on COVID-19 vaccinations in skilled nursing facilities indicates that quite a few residents and staffers at area nursing homes were left unvaccinated last month after many staffers refused a vaccine, and, weeks later, may still be defenseless against the virus. The survey followed the March completion of the Federal Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care Program (FPPLCP), which worked to get nursing home populations immunized by providing at least three vaccine clinics in all participating facilities, including those in Beaver County.

Kansas urges increase of COVID-19 vaccine at long-term care facilities

Nothing is small about Lakeview Village. Between its roughly 800 residents and another 586 staff members, the number of people on the campus of the Lenexa long-term care facility each day rivals some Kansas counties. That has created problems during the COVID-19 pandemic. The facility had multiple outbreaks over the course of the last year. Meanwhile, staff has been forced to call in sick because of infections on a near-constant basis, said Pam Hermon, Lakeview Village s chief operating officer. Vaccines, however, have changed everything. Nearly 100% of residents and 74% of staff have been vaccinated, putting the facility far ahead of the statewide average. No staff cases have been reported since January, Hermon said, and visitation rules have been relaxed  something which is expected to continue.
