No relief for power consumers anytime soon: Fawad - Newspaper

LAHORE: Federal Science & Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry says there is no chance of relief for masses in terms of power tariff as consumers are still paying half of the power cost. He said the previous governments unnecessarily installed costly IPP projects that run on even costly furnace oil. Since the country imports furnace oil and pays bills in dollars, he said, power bills increased. He also said the PDM and price-hike were one and the same thing. Mr Chaudhry was speaking to the media after the inauguration ceremony of the iOS App and the upgraded website of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Radio FM 98.6 at the LCCI on Saturday.

Minister seeks modification of nation s education system

The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, said the present system of education should be modified by reforming learning, curriculum and pedagogy. He said this was in order to keep abreast with modern global practices in education. Mr Nwajiuba stated this at the opening of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Principals of Federal Unity Colleges (FUC) held in Abuja on Monday. The meeting was themed: “Restructuring our education System to suit challenging times.” “The Theme of the 2020 AGM is apt, in that it is imperative in ensuring qualitative instructional delivery so as to maximize student performance in conformity with the societal needs”, he said.

NED Develops an Energy Efficient & Affordable Housing Model Centre for Affordable Housing and Sustainable Built Environment (CAHSBE) at the NED University of Engineering and Technology has developed an affordable model house. According to details, the CAHSBE house is energy-efficient, fireproof, and can be built in less than six weeks. Dr. Shuaib Ahmad, Professor at the NED University’s Civil Engineering Department, said that NED University is in talks with 28 other universities to explore different housing structure designs constructed from mud, concrete, timber, bamboo, and hollow bricks as single material and construction design cannot suit all regions with different terrains and environment
