/ RALEIGH North Carolina lawmakers on Thursday unanimously approved a coronavirus relief bill that sends federal money approved by Congress in December to schools for reopening, public health officials distributing the vaccine and residents struggling to pay their rent. The proposal now heading to Gov. Roy Cooper provides $1.6 billion for education with the aim of helping get kids back to school quicker and addressing learning loss. “The thing that does not get talked about a whole lot is what’s going on with education with the children who are not able to get that in-person classroom experience,” House Speaker Tim Moore said during the legislative session. “Guys, if we don’t get this right and find a way to make sure they’re caught up, this is something that we won’t just be paying for the next year. We’ll be paying for it for decades.”

Hospitalizations hit record high At least 539,545 people in North Carolina have tested positive for the coronavirus and 6,748 have died, according to state health officials. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday reported 6,715 new COVID-19 cases, down from 8,551 reported the day before. The state health department said technical issues contributed to Wednesday s higher case count and may have contributed to a lower total for Thursday.

TTEC Assists N.C. With $8M in Relief for Low-Income Families In less than three days, TTEC created a contact center so that low-income families in North Carolina could receive coronavirus relief money as part of a Department of Revenue program. Through a cloud-based contact center, TTEC helped 25,000 low-income families in North Carolina receive $335 in COVID-19 relief money.  The relief money, which amounted to a total of $8 million, was distributed through an application managed by TTEC staff, according to a press release. The funds came from a North Carolina Department of Revenue program called Extra Credit Grants. The TTEC contact center was created in late November. The Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy, which organized a grant application process called 335forNC, praised TTEC s flexibility.
