Google is now encouraging Google Drive users to use its new Google Drive for Desktop app.
The app replaces the current Backup and Sync app for regular people, as well as the previous Drive client for businesses.
Backup and Sync will stop working in October.
As announced earlier in the year, Google is officially rolling out the new Google Drive for Desktop app. This new app will replace the more consumer-focused Backup and Sync and the Google Drive File Stream for businesses. The File Stream app has already been supplanted by Google Drive for Desktop, but the Backup and Sync app still exists separately. That is set to change.

Google in a blog post announced that syncing clients will help users in curbing confusion about which app to use, result in better performance, and make it easier for admins and IT teams to manage deployments.

The popular internet company based in Mountain View, Google, has announced that it has fixed all compatibility issues that have persisted with its systems to work with the latest M1, also known as the next-generation chip. Google s suite of products is one of the most used programs in the world, with most of them based on the internet for PCs.
Google Drive File Stream will get support for Apple s M1 silicon chip in April.
Google Drive File Stream is being updated to support Apple s M1 Macs in April.
Since the November launch of Apple Silicon-powered Macs, third-party developers have been steadily updating their apps with native support. Google now plans to update Drive File Stream in April with M1 support.
Backup and Sync works with Google Drive and Photos. It s a fairly standard client that lets you sync all (or just some of) your files/folders, including images and videos. Meanwhile, Drive File Stream which is getting renamed is intended for Workspace customers and features an on demand model.
