Attackers wanted to target rival in car of martyred CTD officer

PESHAWAR: The officer of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) martyred in a firing incident outside the Central Prison Peshawar on Saturday was not the target of the attackers, but the person sitting in his car was the one the armed men wanted to kill, it was learnt.
The attack was carried out in the sensitive area Saturday night. An inspector of the CTD Khushdil Khan was martyred in the attack while a civilian Iftikhar was injured.
As per the first information report (FIR) lodged in the East Cantt Police Station, one Sadaqatullah from Kaga Wala village, told the police that he was released from the Central Prison Peshawar on Saturday where he was held in connection with a murder case. “After the court order to release me, I was threatened by rivals that they will attack me outside the jail. PESHAWAR: An officer of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) was martyred while two other cops were wounded when unidentified attackers opened fire on a police party outside the Central Prison Peshawar on Saturday night. The attack was carried out in the sensitive area, not far from the Governor s House, Civil Secretariat, courts and Police Lines. An inspector of the CTD Khushdil Khan was martyred and two other policemen are injured. Heavy contingents of police rushed to the spot to start investigation, said Inspector Mubarak Zeb, spokesman for the Peshawar Police.
The official said the body was sent for postmortem while the wounded policemen were taken to hospital. The wounded policemen were identified as ASI Bakht Zeb and constable Iftikhar. They are being treated at the Lady Reading Hospital.

An official statement said that Asia Saleh Khattak chaired the meeting at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Secretariat on Friday. MPAs Muhammad Idrees, Rabia Basri, Mir Kalam khan, Amjad KAfridi, Anita Mahsud, Khushdil Khan and Dr Sumera Shams, Secretary PHE Department as well as officers concerned of the PHE and LG departments, PSC and KP Assembly attended the event.
The department further directed to furnish area-wise details of non-functional water supply schemes. It was also decided that the committee members would visit each and every district of the province including the merged areas to oversee the on-ground situation.

ISLAMABAD: Abdul Latif Afridi, president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), and Khushdil Khan, vice-chairman of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), have expressed reservations about the appointment of Justice (R) Azmat Saeed as head of the Inquiry Commission for the Broadsheet scandal.
They said the retired Judge remained an active member of the Panama case bench of the Supreme Court and held the office of deputy prosecutor general, NAB, at the time of Broadsheet agreement, during General Pervez Musharrafâs regime. He may not be able to maintain his neutrality while acting as the head of the Inquiry Commission.
