Fishermen’s Co-op hopes for new facility by late 2022 By Steve Limtiaco The Guam Fishermen’s Cooperative Association s new facility could be built by late next year, with space for a seafood restaurant tenant, said Joaquin “Kin” Flores, who s been a member of the co-op for more than 30 years. Flores earlier this week provided public testimony on behalf of the association, supporting a legislative resolution to seek federal grant funding to help build a replacement fishermen’s co-op facility at the Gregorio D. Perez Marina. The project already has nearly $4 million in local funding $3 million in bond money and $995,000 from the Port Authority of Guam for a seawall but Flores said the project, which includes adding vendor spaces and a training room, will cost about $6.8 million.

Residents who want to participate in one of the organized site cleanups and who aren t already connected with one the participating groups, are asked to call the governor’s office at 473-1162 for locations and contact information. If you don’t call in advance, you still can show up at a cleanup site, according to the governor’s office, and should find the person in charge of that site to receive supplies and instructions. Volunteers will be provided with gloves and trash bags and are asked to bring their own facemasks, although some sites will have masks for volunteers who don’t have one.
