Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday inaugurated a ‘special mango train’ on Chapainawabganj-Dhaka route via Rajshahi in order to transport mangoes at a lower cost.
She opened the special train service virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban.
The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway has taken the initiative to transport mangoes at a lower cost for the benefit of mango farmers and traders amid the Covid situation.
The train, having the capacity of 150 metric tonnes in its five wagons, will depart Chapainawabganj for Dhaka via Rajshahi every day and the transport cost is up to Tk 1.3 per kg and Tk 1,300 per MT mango.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council has approved the construction of the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said Wednesday. The committee made the decision in a meeting held in Sukkur. Umar said in a tweet that the National Highway Authority will soon open bids for the contract. The project is part of the Sindh package announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said. The Rs446 billion package was announced in April. The project has already been approved by the Public Private Partnership Authority, Umar said.

ISLAMABAD: The CDWP meeting, presided over by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, cleared three development projects with a cumulative estimated cost of Rs6.5 bn and recommended three projects worth Rs 342 bn to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further consideration.
Senior officials from the Planning Commission and federal ministries/divisions also participated in the meeting while representatives from provincial governments attended through video conferences. Projects related to energy, higher education and nutrition were considered in the meeting.
A project of energy sector namely “20 MW Hydropower Project Hanzel, Gilgit” worth Rs 12,921.662 million was referred to ECNEC for further approval.
