Govt to implement Tk 3,076.22cr project to enhance rural electrification network

The government has undertaken a big move to enhance the capacity and also ensure modernization of distribution network of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), which is expected to benefit and ensure uninterrupted power supply to some 34.30 lakh consumers in Khulna Division.
The BREB under the Power Division will implement the project with an estimated cost of Taka 3,076.22 crore by June 2025.
Of the total project cost, Taka 567.26 crore will come from the government of Bangladesh portion, Taka 808.88 crore will come from the respective organization’s own fund while the rest of Taka 1,700.07 crore as project assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The government approved in principle the local coproduction of Russia s Sputnik V and China s Sinopharm coronavirus vaccines involving Bangladeshi drug makers.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) yesterday approved the proposal made by the health ministry, said Additional Secretary Shahida Akhter of the Cabinet Division told reporters yesterday.
The development came a day after the government authorised the emergency use of Sputnik V and also sought immediate supply from Sinopharm at a meeting with Chinese delegates.

CDWP Gives Go-ahead to Projects Worth Billions
The Planning Commission’s Central Development Working Party (CDWP), in a meeting, presided over by the Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, cleared a development project with an estimated cost of Rs. 5 billion, and recommended one project worth Rs. 191.47 billion to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further consideration.
Senior officials from the Planning Commission and Federal Ministries/Divisions also attended the meeting, and representatives from the provincial governments attended video conferences.

A project related to Health, called ‘Strengthening of Existing DHQs, and selected THQs, RHCs, BHUs in District Awaran, Washuk, Khuzdar, Lesbela, Panjgur, Gwadar and Kech (Less Developed areas of the Balochistan)’ worth Rs. 4996.60 million was approved in the meeting.
Govt agrees to bridge funding gap of Rs175bln project

ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday agreed to bridge the funding gap of an estimated Rs175 billion worth of Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway project ensilaged under public-private partnership mode.
Public Private Partnership Authority (PPPA) took the decision during a meeting presided over by Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar.
âWe authorised the viability gap fund and transaction structure for the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway project,â Umar wrote on Twitter.
Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6), , a critical component of China-funded economic corridor, is expected to be 306 kilometers long, six-lane wide, access-controlled motorway, which starts from the end of M-9 that connects Hyderabad to Karachi via the 136km long 6-lane motorway and ends at the beginning of 392km long and 6-lane Sukkur-Multan Motorway (M-5).

ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has cleared one development project with a cumulative estimated cost of Rs3.72 billion and recommended one project worth Rs89.56 billion to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further consideration.
The decisions were taken at a CDWP meeting, presided over by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan. Secretary Planning Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh, senior officials from Planning Commission and federal ministries / divisions also participated in the meeting, while representatives from provincial governments participated through video conference.
Projects related to agriculture, and food and climate change, and physical planning and housing were presented in the meeting.
