Dad, groom remanded over 12-yr-old girl s marriage

By Tue Jul 13 2021 A family court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, has remanded one Oyefeso Saheed, 35, who allegedly gave out his 12-year-old daughter in marriage to one 32-year-old Ismail Lawal. The matter was reported at the Adewole police station by a member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kwara State branch, Aishat Temeem, after receiving a call from the victim’s school principal. Temeem had called the attention of the police who eventually got the father arrested and arraigned at the state family court, presided over by Magistrate Shade Lawal. According to the charge sheet, an investigation conducted at the Anti Human Trafficking Women and Children Protection Unit revealed through a medical report that the hymen of the victim was no longer intact and there were bruises around her private part.

The incident is said to have occurred on separate occasions at the victims’ Greater Tomorrow Child Development International School campus in Mandingo Quarter Community in Kakata where the suspect serves as teacher and registrar. Suspect Mohammed V.S. Talawillay was on Friday, March 26 arrested and detained by police following complaints filed against him by the victims’ (nameswithheld) parents.

Ganta Police Holds First Candy Program for Children

For Christmas Holiday Officers of the Liberia National Police, Ganta Detail on Friday, December 25, 2020, held what was described as its first ‘candy’ program for kids, who normally trek the streets on holidays in search of a recreation center for entertainment. According to Sgt. Jenkins N. Mangou, the head of the Women and Children Protection Unit, who is a coordinator of the Community Service Section (CSS), the program aims to keep kids from roaming the streets and also keep them from danger or harm during the holiday. “We decided to have this program in order to keep our kids in one place so as to avoid them from getting trapped from the hands of criminals and also keep them away from danger,” Patrolman Jacob Wonpoe of the CSS said in an overview.
