The Texas foster care system is facing a capacity crisis: Hundreds of children and youth in Texas foster care have had nowhere to sleep but Child Protective Services offices, without showers, kitchens or comforts.
New legislation signed by Gov. Greg Abbott prohibits children in foster care sleeping in state offices. These children may now be sleeping in hotels and motels, supervised by caseworkers from CPS.

SAN ANTONIO – A local non-profit, Child Advocates San Antonio, or CASA, has been a mainstay in San Antonio’s child welfare system. Their new CEO is looking to continue impacting the area and organization in her new role.
The organization, which serves more than 1,800 children throughout Bexar County, has seen an increase in child abuse cases during the coronavirus pandemic and says the trend will likely continue in the coming months.
It’s something Angela White, the organization’s new CEO, hopes to address as she takes the reins at CASA this month.

SAN ANTONIO The San Antonio Food Bank received hand sanitizer, hand sanitizer stations and gloves to help keep people protected from the coronavirus. The donation comes from a company that has made a commitment to help a number of different businesses in 2020.
Richmond Advantage, one of San Antonio’s hospitality and restaurant industry product suppliers, stopped by the SAFB to make the generous donation on Wednesday morning. The company gave nearly $50,000 of vital equipment and resources to the organization.
