Last year October fire and fury raged in many southern cities and towns in Nigeria over the mindless brutality, torture, extortion and killings associated with the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The #EndSARS revolutionary protests that rocked the nation witnessed unprecedented violence and looting and arson. It took the bloody intervention of some zombie soldiers in Lagos (Lekki Toll-Gate PLaza) for the massive demonstrations to be brought to an abrupt gruesome end.

Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, has said that a total of $2 million and N17 million was stolen when youths attacked his palace on October 21, 2020.
It would be recalled that the #EndSARS turned bloody after hoodlums hijacked the demonstration and subsequent incidences led to the alleged killing of protesters at the Lekki Tollgate, a development that the army has continued to deny.
The hoodlums also took over the Palace of the Oba of Lagos located at Iga Idugaran, Lagos Island, where they vandalised vehicles and carted away several artefacts.
Soldiers came to the rescue of the monarch who is in his seventies.

Akiolu s comment has elicited a backlash on social media, with Nigerians asking how he got such a huge amount of money that he kept in his palace.

Akiolu, who spoke at the Glover Hall Memorial Commissioning, Lagos on Wednesday, lamented the devastation inflicted on Lagos by the protesters, including his palace. I can now say it publicly that they stole from my palace two million dollars cash and N17 million, I am now saying it publicly. I am not a wealthy man, but I am a contented person and Insha Allahu, I will continue to be rich.
