Although the UK is now entering spring, forecasters are predicting the mercury to drop to close to -4C (24.8F) in some areas with the chances of wintry spells. Large parts of the Highlands of Scotland will see temperatures fall below freezing to -4C on March 12 due to a cold snap of air moving across the Atlantic. Such is the cold air gripping Scotland, some forecasters have warned of wintry showers on Friday in the north of the country.

Toronto may have gotten a hint of spring weather this weekend with temperatures finally going above zero, but it seems that the milder climate was short-lived, as the city has just issued an extreme cold weather alert.
The alerts come when it s expected to drop to -15 C or colder in the city, and/or when the wind chill is forecasted to be - 20 C or lower.
According to Environment Canada, it s slated to feel like a frosty - 17 C by Monday afternoon despite the high being 1 C, thrusting us back into our typical seasonal temps after a glimmer of hope that winter was coming to an end.
Cold temperatures and bitter winds have prompted the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) to issue a Cold Weather Alert for the area.
After a wicked winter storm that left nearly 25 cm of snow on the ground, Environment Canada is now forecasting subfreezing temperatures with gusting winds for Tuesday night.
The current Environment Canada forecast calls for windchill values as low as -18C with plenty of flurries and gusting winds. Overnight, London is expected to see a low of -19C with windchill values as low as -23.
While daytime temperatures on Wednesday are expected to reach a high of -6C, the Cold Weather Alert will remain in place, as windchill values are predicted to be as low as -26 in the morning.
COLD WEATHER, ice and snow is gripping the UK in the wake of Storm Darcy. According to the latest forecasts, the chilly conditions are expected to continue, with temperatures of -11C possible in some parts of the UK today.
