The scales of justice A MOTORIST who drove having taken drugs has been banned from the road. Williams Bean, of Low Garth in Kendal, admitted that he drove with cannabis in his system in Kendal. The incident happened on the road where he lives on December 1. At South Cumbria Magistrates Court the 34-year-old was fined £250 and banned from driving for a year. He was also told to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.

HEARING: Carlisle Crown Court A KENDAL man has been jailed after police caught him with cannabis potentially worth more than £10,000 - and just over £21,000 in criminal cash. William Bean, 34, was caught in the Burneside area near Kendal on May 8 last year when police stopped his Volkswagen Golf - and noticed a strong smell of skunk cannabis emanating from within the vehicle, Carlisle Crown Court heard. Inside the VW, officers found 117g of the class B drug. A search of the defendant s bedroom at his Low Garth home in Kendal uncovered a half kilo of the drug as well as £23,000 - though £2,000 of this was a legitimate loan from a family member.
