Moms, grandmas, and their grateful offspring gathered on Sunday at Prima Pasta & Café on Cross Bay Boulevard for the Howard Beach Lindenwood Civic’s “Muffins with Mom” event. HB Moms, Mia Bella Salon, and Perfect Match Nails provided the raffle prizes.
“It was so heartwarming to watch all the children make special gifts for the number one lady in their lives while learning how to give back to their community by participating in the civic’s suggestion to donate baby items, such as clothing, diapers, wipes, etc. for the local family shelters,” said civic President Joann Ariola.

State Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach) voiced his disdain for the new, very relaxed marijuana laws that are going into effect across New York while addressing area residents during Tuesday evening’s Howard Beach Lindenwood Civic meeting.
“After reading the bill, there were just some things in it that I could not approve,” Addabbo said, noting that he was one of just three Democratic senators to vote no on the legalization legislation.
One of those concerns is that technology has not caught up with the law, so it still is extremely difficult for cops to charge someone with driving under the influence of cannabis when there is no marijuana breathalyzer to gage consumption.

A Middle Village man has been accused of stealing $11,000 from a woman in Ireland by using her dead brother’s cell phone to convince her he was her sibling and then repeatedly requesting she send him money in April 2019, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Thursday.
Frederick Gilbert, 53, was arraigned Monday on a complaint charging him with grand larceny in the third and fourth degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, and identity theft in the first and third degree. Gilbert was ordered to return to court on May 5.
