Gucci on trend
By now it’s no surprise that the likes of Chanel, Bulgari, Hermès and Dior are responsible for some of the most creative timepieces to be had, but the bigger revelation is that the trend is continuing with such strength, even attracting newcomers.
Newcomers? Well, Gucci for one, which has announced its first “high watchmaking” collection. The brand might be venerable in the true sense of the word, established by Guccio Gucci back in 1921, but its foray into timepieces has mostly bordered on the cheaper “fashion watch” market.

‘I wanted to create an immersive capsule collection inspired by electronic music culture,’ Chastaingt said upon introducing the models. He was inspired by the rave culture of the Nineties for watches which zing with a rainbow of bright hues. ‘The musical movement created a radical new visual universe which was a reflection of the night life and its atmosphere,’ he adds. ‘Electronic music transcended the frontiers of music and created an aesthetic culture.’ The new collection borrows these vibrant codes, juxta

If a man wants a statement watch he just has to buy a very oversized model. But if a woman wants one, until recently she had to borrow it from him. Now, if she has the confidence and the means, she can have her own, ultra-feminine standout timepiece that may stretch way up her arm. The cuff watch is back, mostly in the form of a stunning piece of high jewellery.

This limited edition of 1,255 pieces is crafted with highly resistant black ceramic, steel case, and sapphire caseback. The J12 Caliber 12.1 steel comes with a unidirectional rotating bezel with neon rainbow-coloured indicators and numerals that provide the timepiece an electric feel. Setting the pace for the collection, the J12 is introduced in four different interpretations of fine watchmaking.
Aside from individual pieces, there is also a J12 Electro Box comprising 12 unique timepieces. “I created the J12 Electro Box as a performance,” says Arnaud Chastaingt.
