25 miles of county roads to be repaved this year, estimated at $2M
ZANESVILLE - Areas of Muskingum County will have some portions of their roads repaved this year.
On Monday, county commissioners opened bids for two projects resurfacing 25 miles of road throughout the county and new security cameras at the juvenile court.
The county engineer s office estimated the combine cost of four paving projects will be a little more than $2 million, but only a portion of that would come from the county, County Engineer Mark Eicher said.
Around 40% of that amount would be paid by the county, and the rest would come from state grants.

County Commissioners meet to review Bid Offers on Road Resurfacing
MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The County Commissioners met this morning to review bid offers on companies willing to resurface roads in Muskingum County.
The Shelly Company, Shelly and Sands Inc and NLS Paving Inc were the three bidders. Thirteen different roads will be resurfaced once the county commissioners accept a bid offer.
“We try to resurface every 10 years, but a lot of times it goes out to 15 and 20 years before we can resurface. It just maintains the integrity of the road, without it, it just deteriorates and then you have all the potholes and alligator cracking and the road just falls apart,” Muskingum County Engineer Mark Eicher said.
BLUE ROCK TOWNSHIP - Awaiting critical inspection results, the Gaysport Bridge will be closed until further notice.
The Muskingum County Engineer s Office announced late Monday afternoon that after a routine inspection, the bridge also known as the North Street bridge needed to undergo additional review.
There were some concerns about the findings of the initial inspection, administrative deputy Matt Russell told the Times Recorder on Tuesday morning.
A consultant is now determining if the bridge can immediately reopen or not. Right now the review is considered a precautionary measure, he said.
The engineer s office expects inspection results by the end of the week.
Muskingum County planning to resurface 25 miles
ZANESVILLE, Ohio Extra funding from the Muskingum County Commissioners is helping to pave 25 miles of county roads in 2021. Muskingum County Commission President Mollie Crooks says the extra $1 million will help pave about 11 miles of road that wouldn’t have been paved this year.
County Engineer Mark Eicher says the roads are selected for paving based on their existing condition. He anticipates the 2021 paving projects will cost about $2 million.
Eicher says the county commissioners office will advertise the county resurfacing projects.
