Mark York, who starred in the popular sitcom as Scranton Business Park property manager Billy Merchant during its second to fifth seasons. York died early on May 19, after a brief and unexpected illness . Although the exact cause of death is as yet unknown.
The 55-year-old actor died at the Miami Valley Hospital in Ohio, and confirmation of the news was delivered by the Montgomery County Coroner s Office. It is yet another sad death to hit the entertainment industry, with a number of unexpected passings in the last few months.

Mark York, the actor best known for playing Billy Merchant on the NBC sitcom âThe Office,â died last week in Dayton, Ohio. He was 55.
His death was confirmed by the Montgomery County coronerâs office, which said on Tuesday that he had died in a hospital of natural causes. Mr. Yorkâs family said in an obituary that he had died after âa brief and unexpected illness.â
According to an obituary posted online, Mark died in Ohio on 19 May of an unexpected illness.
He was best known for appearing in a handful of episodes of the workplace comedy between 2006 to 2009.
Among Mark’s most memorable moments in The Office was when his character was the guest of clueless boss Michael Scott (Steve Carell) during a disability awareness meeting.
The actor – whose legs were paralysed in an auto accident in real life – entered the room in his wheelchair and fielded awkward questions from Scott before finally telling him: “You know what, Michael, let me stop you right there and leave.”

York was a paraplegic since 1988 but his disability didn’t stop him from leading a life of positivity while inspiring those around him with his outgoing and uplifting approach to life.
