ASX advances 1.7pc; Senex completes Cooper Basin sale

The Australian sharemarket has closed firmly higher on Monday, rebounding from a heavy loss on Friday.
The S&P/ASX 200 Index soared 116.3 points, or 1.7 per cent, to 6789.6.
Commonwealth Bank advanced 3.1 per cent to $84.11, CSL added 2.9 per cent to $270.28 and BHP Group firmed 2 per cent to $50.09.
Austal soared 8.4 per cent to $2.57 after winning a $US235 million contract from the US Navy, Reece firmed 7 per cent to $17.34 and Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals added 6.5 per cent to $23.87.
Fortescue Metals Group tumbled 5.9 per cent to $22.68 as it traded ex-dividend, Northern Star Resources declined 2.6 per cent to $9.95 and Evolution Mining slid 2.6 per cent to $4.09.
