Cassidy, a former Port Elgin resident born in Burgoyne, is a world record holding three-time Canadian Paralympian who hopes to qualify for the Games that were postponed last year due to COVID.

Saugeen Shores resident, Rotarian Mark Kraemer, who said he’d known Cassidy since he was a baby when cancer paralyzed his legs, is helping organize the qualifier that will close streets on the route from 7:30 and 11 a.m.
The route includes Gustavus, Waterloo, Bruce St., and Biener Streets., Kraemer said in a July 9 telephone interview, adding the wheelchair racers will do 15 laps to total 42 kilometres at speeds of 6.5 minutes per lap.
