BARNSTABLE The East Falmouth man charged with shooting two Falmouth police officers in 2018 is seeking a jury-waived trial in front of a judge.
Malik Koval, 23, who is facing multiple counts of assault and battery as well as several other charges, was expected to enter a plea Tuesday during his hearing in Barnstable Superior Court, which was conducted via Zoom.
A Barnstable County grand jury indicted Koval in November 2018 on two counts each of armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a firearm and assault and battery on a police officer, as well as one count each of possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threat to commit crime and disturbing the peace.
BARNSTABLE A North Carolina man was held without bail Thursday in Barnstable Superior Court in connection with the killing of Damian Anderson in July in Mashpee.
Christopher Strickland, 33, was arraigned in February on a charge of first-degree murder in the shooting of Anderson, a New Bedford resident.
Strickland also was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a Firearms Identification Card card, discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, improper storage of a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit murder.
On Feb. 22, Norman Dias, of Mashpee, also was charged with murder in Barnstable Superior Court in connection with Anderson s death.
BARNSTABLE The court case for a teacher accused of sexually assaulting two first graders has been paused as a state Supreme Judicial Court justice presides over whether a social worker for one of the victims can be deposed on privileged therapy records.
The Barnstable Superior Court case against Noah Campbell-Halley, a former computer technology teacher at Stony Brook Elementary in Brewster, was stayed late last month as the attorney for one of the victims and the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office appealed a judge’s decision to allow the defense to depose Jill Sayward, who was a therapist for one of the children.
BARNSTABLE The Catholic priest charged with multiple counts of rape pleaded not guilty to all charges Monday during his arraignment in Barnstable Superior Court.
Mark Hession was arraigned on charges including two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and battery on a child less than 14 and one count of intimidation of a witness. He was released after posting $2,500 cash bail.
Judge Mark Gildea also ordered that Hession’s passport be taken away and that he stay away from the complainant. Hession is due to reappear in court for a pretrial conference on Feb. 24.
Hession, who delivered the homily at the funeral for U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in 2009, was accused of assaulting a child under 14 with the “intent to commit rape and did commit rape upon such person” on multiple occasions between 2005 and 2008 in Barnstable County, according to redacted indictments.
