CEO Ashton Starts Town Job

New Blues CEO Mark Ashton begins his job at Town today.
The 49-year-old, whose five-year spell in the same role at Bristol City ended over the weekend, is holding a meeting with all club staff this morning prior to a Portman Road press conference which TWTD will be attending with stories available on the site early this afternoon.
TWTD revealed that Ashton was the man the new Blues owners wanted to be their CEO back in February with his appointment confirmed in April.
Ashton became chief operating officer with the Robins in January 2016 then in July 2017 was named chief executive officer, having previously worked with the Robins as a consultant helping to establish their talent identification and recruitment system.

New Blues CEO Mark Ashton admits he wasn’t the greatest goalkeeper in his days as a young player under Town legend Brian Talbot at West Brom and says his career when downhill after a defeat to Real Madrid which led to coaching and then into the boardroom.
“I made my debut with Brian Talbot at 17,” Ashton, now 49, recalled. “You’re going to love this. Against Real Madrid. It’s true! They all laugh. We played in the US in San Francisco against Real Madrid and they had Bebeto, [Rafael] Gordillo etc playing.
Ashton: Portman Road Needs a New Modern Pitch

New Town CEO Mark Ashton has revealed that a new modern pitch with undersoil heating is a priority for the summer of 2022 and that new stands could follow later on down the line.
During Ashton’s time at Bristol City the club virtually rebuilt Ashton Gate and opened a new state-of-the-art training ground. Asked whether there might be similar developments at Town in the years to come, he said: “I didn’t do the stadium development, I did the training ground development, but I think for sure over time.
Ashton: Too Big an Opportunity to Turn Down

Incoming Blues CEO Mark Ashton says it was time for a new challenge and Town was too big an opportunity to turn down following five and a half years at Bristol City.
Ashton was first mentioned in connection with the CEO’s role at Portman Road by TWTD in February with his appointment announced in April before he finally took charge today.
The 49-year-old held a short 10-minute meeting with club staff - from Playford Road as well as Portman Road - in the FanZone this morning to introduce himself and outline his plans for the future.
