Croatian government decides to support independent artists

The government decided on Monday to financially support independent artists, the self-employed and independent culture professionals, tasking the finance and culture ministries with setting aside an additional €3 million this year as direct support to the culture sector. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek said the support was envisaged for an activity that was not covered by the Croatian Employment Service’s coronavirus relief measures and that it would come from a special culture ministry fund. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said the decision sent the message that culture was important, including in times when the country is hit by a pandemic and earthquakes.

Source: Xinhua| Editor: huaxia Video PlayerClose ZAGREB, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) The situation of unemployment has worsened in Croatia due to COVID-19 as 156,550 unemployed people were registered in Croatia in November, a 21.9 percent increase year on year, according to data published Thursday by the Croatian Employment Service. The number of unemployed is also higher on a monthly basis, as in November there were 2,382 more unemployed people than in October. The data showed that the number is also growing in December, and there are currently 6,451 vacancies. Most people in the unemployment register came from such sectors as food preparation and service, accommodation, processing industry, wholesale and retail trade as well as education.
