The Bridge hosts kickoff ceremony for Child Abuse Awareness, Prevention Month
In front of The Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center, located at 804 Quail Creek Dr., there are currently 1,109 pinwheels which spin in the Texas Panhandle wind.
Those 1,109 pinwheels were put in the ground of the center’s front lawn by numerous supporters of The Bridge wearing blue at a Tuesday morning ceremony, including law enforcement, representatives from other agencies, members of the community as well as students from Crockett Middle School, Bushland Independent School District, Wildorado ISD and the Tascosa High School softball team.
Each one of the individual pinwheels represents a child in the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle who used the services of The Bridge in the past year, telling their individual stories of abuse.
ECISD to provide meal service for students on March 5

ODESSA, Texas The Ector County Independent School District will be providing meals to members of its community on March 5.
Nimitz and Crockett Middle Schools will be the two campuses holding the curbside meal events from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Anyone between the age of 1 and 18 is eligible to receive these meals. People with disabilities over the age 18 who participate in school programs can receive these meals as well.
Coach Arrested for Inappropriate Relationship With Student
PECOS, TX A middle school teacher and coach has been arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
According to the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah I.S.D, the teacher has been identified as William Smith.
Smith was a 7th Grade Social Studies teacher at Crockett Middle School and coached at Pecos High School.
The school district confirmed Smith was placed on leave after the district received information about an inappropriate relationship and was fired after the investigation was completed.
“After receiving information regarding a Crockett Middle School teacher, who also coaches at Pecos High School, having inappropriate communication and behavior with a high school student, PBTISD administration and police immediately began an investigation.
