Sparrow Ionia Hospital names Nurse of the Year

IONIA A nurse at Sparrow Ionia Hospital was honored for helping her colleagues and giving back to the community.
Virginia Burnham was named Sparrow Ionia Hospital’s Nurse of the Year, according to a news release. Burnham has worked as an Emergency Department night shift nurse since 2018.
Sparrow Hospital and Sparrow Community Hospital honored thousands of nurses during this year’s Nurses Week.
Burnham was praised for “always being willing to go above and beyond for her colleagues,” the release states. Burnham has also created surgical caps and donated cloth masks to the community.

CHARLOTTE, Mich. â The Eaton County Sheriffâs Office is searching for a man they say escaped from custody.
Jamel Bomar fled on foot from Sparrow Eaton Hospital after an emergency medical visit, according to the sheriffâs office.
Deputies are searching for him in the downtown Charlotte area and believe he s heading north toward Lansing.
They also suspect he ll be looking for transportation and recommend residents lock their vehicles doors.
There is no indication Bomar is currently armed.
He likely has fresh, self-inflicted wounds to his chest and neck, and had a beard when he was last seen, deputies said.
Anyone 16 years old or older is eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine as of Monday in Michigan.
This comes at a time when Michigan is a hotbed for COVID-19 cases. The state health department reported 8,413 new COVID-19 cases and 57 deaths Saturday, which is the highest case total since Dec. 4, 2020.
In addition, surges like the one currently happening in Michigan are a distinct possibility, in other states because of the spread of the U.K. variant of the virus, relaxing of social distancing mandates and increased mobility, according to a policy briefing from the University of Washington s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
