A HISTORIC Southampton church is set to reopen as a Sikh temple. The Methodist church on Burgess Road was put on the market earlier this year with a price tag of £1.2million. It has now been given a new lease of life and been snapped up by a Sikh group called Gurdwara Khalsa Darbar. The Grade II listed building which is thought to have been built in the 1930s is undergoing a £50,000 revamp. Two prayer rooms have already been refurbished, according to a spokesperson for the community group. Meanwhile, the building will “stay in keeping” with the character of the area and remain part of Swaythling heritage.
