Guru Ravidas Jayanti 2021: Date, significance and why it is celebrated

Feb 27, 2021, 08:05 AM IST NEW DELHI: Our country has been home to many poets and saints. Similarly, the mystic saint-poet of the Bhakti movement Ravidas was born in the pious city of Varanasi. The exact date of birth is not known, however it is believed that Guru Ravidas was alive from the 15th to 16th century CE. Saint Ravidas wrote many devotional songs which became popular during the bhakti movement. It is also believed that Guru Ravidas is the founder of 21st-century Ravidassia religion. The spiritual figure and guru as he is famously called Sant Ravidas in the regions of Punjab, UP, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, had written some devotional songs which found place in the holy Guru Granth Sahib. The saint-poet worked religiously towards reforming the people from social evils such as caste system.

Her visit is seen as part of the Congress’ outreach among the Dalits. The bhakti poet has a huge following among a section of Dalits, especially in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Ms. Vadra visited the Seer Gowardhan in the city and attended a satsang on the occasion and ate in a langar.

URL copied Image Source : PTI People up to Rs 1.8 Lakh annual income to be included in BPL category in Haryana: CM Manohar Lal Khattar Haryana households with a total annual income of Rs 1.8 lakh will be included in the below-poverty-line category families from April 2021, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Saturday. Khattar made the announcement about raising households’ income limit for their inclusion in the BPL category from the existing Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 1.8 lakh from the next fiscal while addressing a state-level function on the occasion of the 644th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas. From April 1, 2021, the annual income slab of BPL families will be increased from Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 1.8 lakh, he said.
