When Conor Bryant let himself reflect on Saturday nightâs T20 grand final defeat to Magpies he could do so with a smile, because 12 months earlier he played a key role in getting them there.
The longtime Devil switched to Magpies last season and played a part in nurturing the clubâs stable of young but talented players, before returning to Norths this year.
It came back to bite him on the biggest stage in Mackay cricket, when those same young guns â led by experienced campaigner and top bat Rhys McBride â rolled to a six-wicket win on Saturday night.

A CENTRAL Queensland police officer has been recognised as the 2020 Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Queensland Hero for his dedication to the community.
Bede Little, Senior Constable of the Ilfracombe Police Station, was named the RFDS Local Hero for the Longreach region and was today announced as the statewide winner.
His work in the community extends much further than policing due to the remote nature of his location and the struggles experienced across the region due to drought.
On one occasion Mr Little helped the pilot of a small plane which stalled mid-air.
Fortunately for the person in the aircraft, he was able to assist until the RFDS arrived.
