A panel of Liverpool City Councillors will meet next week to decide the future of a top authority officer who was arrested as part of a corruption probe. Liverpool Council s Director of Regeneration, Nick Kavanagh, was pulled from his Cunard Building office and arrested on December 18 2019 as part of Merseyside Police s Operation Aloft investigation, which is investigating building and development contracts in the city.

Liverpool politics is always an interesting beast - but things have been particularly seismic of late. Mr Anderson was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation as part of a Merseyside Police investigation into building and development contracts in the city. He was immediately suspended by the Labour Party and remains so with his bail period extended to later this month. This has meant Labour have had to move quickly to select a new candidate for May s elections - with Acting Mayor Wendy Simon, former Deputy Mayor Ann O Byrne and current Lord Mayor Anna Rothery battling it out for the position.
