Actor and singer Jack Tan ( pic) said he is still a Malaysian after rumours circulated he has given up his citizenship, reported China Press. The 30-year-old recently obtained a Resident Certificate from Taiwan after having stayed there for work since December 2020, and posted the news on his Instagram. However, some fans misunderstood the post and thought he had given up his Malaysian citizenship. “‘Given up’ is too strong a phrase. Please remember that having a Resident Permit does not equate to citizenship,” he later wrote on Instagram. Tan is best known for his role in Shuttle Life in 2017 which won him three Best Actor awards: at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival’s Asian New Talent competition; 12th Chinese Young Generation Film Forum Awards which was held in Wuhan; and the inaugural Asean-China Film Festival in Putrajaya.
