Synopsis
The elections are postponed for an indefinite period following a request made by the main political parties including the BJP, the Congress and the AAP, and many social groups, it said. Taking in view the grave situation caused by the pandemic, to maintain public health and to ensure that voting is done in a free and fair environment, the state EC has decided to postpone this election till further orders, the SEC said.

As per the earlier programme, the elections were scheduled to be held on April 18 and the counting of votes was to be taken up on April 20.

An official statement said that the Gujarat State Election Commission (SEC) on Saturday decided to postpone the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation elections to be held on 18 April, due to the increase in COVID-19 cases.
Elections are postponed indefinitely following a request made by several major political parties and several social groups, including BJP, Congress and AAP.
“In view of the critical situation caused by the epidemic, the State Election Commission (SEC) has decided to postpone this election until further orders, in order to maintain public health and ensure that the voting takes place in a free and fair environment,” “SEC said.

Ahmedabad: Counting of votes for polls to 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayat and 231 taluka panchayat will be held on Tuesday (March 2).
The polling took place on Sunday with municipalities recording a voter turnout of 58.82 percent, while the figure was 65.80 percent for the district panchayats and 66.60 percent for taluka panchayats.
The final figures were released by the State Election Commission on Monday.
Re-polling was held during the day in a booth in Ghodiya in Jhalod taluka of Dahod district after two EVMs were damaged during Sunday s polling by three people.

Gandhinagar, Jan 23 : The Gujarat State Election Commission (SEC) on Saturday announced the local body elections in the state, involving six municipal corporations, 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats. The terms of these seats had ended last year, but the elections were postponed due to Coronavirus pandemic. With Saturday s announcement, the model code of conduct (MCC) becomes effective in these constituencies.
The State Election Commission (SEC) has declared the dates for the polling for the local bodies like Municipal Corporations, municipalities, the district and Tehsil Panchayats in Gujarat.
