Gujarat Assembly Passes Freedom Of Religion Amendment Bill 2021 Share This - Gujarat Assembly on Thursday (01st April) passed the Gujarat Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill 2021 which seeks to penalize forcible or fraudulent religious conversion by marriage and would amend the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act, 2003. The Bill has been passed along the lines of similar Laws passed by the State of Madhya Pradesh and the State of Uttar Pradesh. The Bill proposes to put in place stringent measures with a minimum imprisonment of 3 years (which may extend to 5 years) in case of conversion of an individual and 4 years (which may extend to 7 years) if the case involves a minor, woman or an SC/ST [

INDIA New England News Gandhinagar– The Gujarat Assembly on Thursday passed a Bill to amend the ‘Dharma Swatantrya’ (Freedom of Religion) Act, 2003 which aims to combat forceful religious conversions, better known as ‘Love Jihad’, on the concluding day of the Budget session. However, the opposition Congress questioned its intentions and dubbed the bill as a tool to attain political mileage and create religious divide. Tabled by the ruling BJP, the amendment seeks to prohibit and punish religious conversion promising better lifestyle, divine blessings and impersonation on the pretext of marriage. The Bill was tabled in the state Assembly by Legislative Affairs Minister Pradeepsinh Jadeja.
