DELAND For the past couple of months, visitors to downtown could grab a seat at one of the tables set up on East Indiana Avenue, just outside The Elusive Grape, on Friday and Saturday nights.
As the pandemic continues to thrive across much of the country, businesses, especially smaller ones are trying to find new ways of doing things so that customers will feel safe and continue to patronize them.
But for the past two weekends, those downtown businesses, after receiving approval from the City Commission, have been trying something new. The city is now closing West Indiana Avenue to vehicle traffic from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights so that the extra outdoor seating may be set up there.
