DEP approves Keystone Landfill expansion in Lackawanna County

Updated: 4:49 PM EDT June 3, 2021 DUNMORE, Pa. The Keystone Landfill made the expansion request back in 2014 and seven years later it s a done deal. The expansion is not the addition of more property. DEP says the landfill can expand vertically by filling the valleys in between current waste mounds. DEP says Keystone can fill 435 acres of existing permitted property. A spokesperson with the landfill says they will be able to dispose of 94 million tons of waste. This has been a controversial issue here since 2014. Newswatch 16 spoke with Dunmore s mayor Tim Burke who was disappointed with the decision. Senator Bob Casey issued a statement saying DEP s decision is contrary to the best interests of the people.

UGI Utilities to Bring Renewable Natural Gas Supplies into System | North American Oil & Gas Pipelines

February 26, 2021News UGI Utilities Inc. will be delivering renewable energy through its distribution pipeline system. The subsidiary of UGI Corp. announced Feb. 17 that the signing of an agreement with Archaea Energy LLC of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to accept delivery of renewable natural gas (RNG) from the Keystone Landfill in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, into its distribution system. This is the first RNG supply interconnect agreement UGI Utilities has signed to-date. / Advertisement / The RNG supply will be injected into UGI Utilities’ high-pressure natural gas pipeline serving its distribution system located in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. The landfill gas, a byproduct of naturally decomposing materials in the landfill, will be processed and conditioned to meet UGI Utilities’ gas quality requirements. The project is scheduled to become operational in September 2021.
