The other main line: Lower Merion s forgotten train line that helped build Philadelphia

LOWER MERION — Most people know the basic story of how the Main Line got its name. The quickest version is that it comes from the old Main Line of the Pennsylvania Railroad, the rail line that now takes SEPTA commuters on a parallel course with Lancaster Avenue. The talk was given by township resident and secretary of the Lower Merion Historical Society, Perry Hamilton.

Lights on Arnold Field: Wynnewood Civic takes appeal to Lower Merion zoning board

LOWER MERION — There s been a long-standing debate about bringing lights to Lower Merion s Arnold Field. In short, the school and football team want them for Friday night games, but the neighbors don t. In 2020 it appeared the debate was coming to an end as Michael Wylie, Lower Merion zoning officer, determined that the lights were compatible with the township s new zoning code. But that decision is being challenged, and it appears the ensuing fight between Wynnewood and LMSD could go well into the summer with the zoning board having the final say - unless the losing side appeals it in court.
