With help from a Columbia Bank grant, local landscape design firm The Garden Angels has created a memorial garden to honor the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 Memorial Garden was dedicated May 1 at Geer Community Park.
Elizabeth Powers, a principal designer with The Garden Angels, said she unexpectedly received a $1,500 grant through Columbia Bank s #CBPassItOnProject program, and decided to design a permanent space to memorialize COVID-19 victims in Salem.
After personally losing people during the pandemic and seeing the loss in the community, Powers said she wanted to find a place to juxtapose that grief with vitality and hope for the future.
