I was absolutely astounded to see
Rennia Davis fall to the Lynx at the 9th pick. Although I had her 7th on my big board, many mocks and experts had listed her as a top 5 talent and it’s easy to see why. Standing at an impressive 6’2”, Davis is do-it-all forward who was a winner season in, and season out. Her athleticism pops and with her wiry frame, she wreaks havoc on defense while getting into the paint at will thanks to her high motor. She has grown into a leader for a very competitive Tennessee Lady Volunteers team.
2021 WNBA Draft Tracker: Complete results, grades as Charli Collier taken with No. 1 pick by Dallas Wings
As expected, the Dallas Wings took Collier with the first pick Apr 15, 2021 at 10:19 pm ET6 min read
The 2021 WNBA Draft is in the books, and as expected the Dallas Wings started the night by selecting Texas center Charli Collier and Finnish center Awak Kuier. They needed depth in the frontcourt, so that was no surprise. Collier is WNBA ready and Kuier has perhaps the most potential of any player in this class.
Aari McDonald, Arizona s NCAA Women s Tournament star went No. 3 to the Atlanta Dream, and after that things got a little wild. The Indiana Fever rounded out the lottery by selecting West Virginia guard Kysre Gondrezick, who most expected to go in the second or third round.
The 2021 WNBA draft might be best remembered for three things: a potential dynamic duo for the Dallas Wings with 1-2 picks Charli Collier and Awak Kuier, teams betting on young international talent, and Indiana throwing some unexpected curveballs that will prove to be either surprisingly brilliant or way off base.
At maximum, there are only 144 roster spots in the 12-team WNBA. Not every team is expected to carry 12 players this year, though, due to contractual obligations and fitting under the salary cap, so there might be even fewer spots up for grabs. When you consider how good the rosters already are, the chances for the draftees to make it to the league in its 25th anniversary season are going to be tough for most.

A San Antonio native is on her way to the WNBA. Kiana Williams is a Wagner High School grad who went one on to become a star player at Stanford. She came home this year for the women s NCAA basketball tournament and helped the Cardinals win the title for the first time since 1992. The defending champions Seattle Storm selected Williams 18th overall in the second round of the WNBA Draft on Thursday night. She s the 27th Stanford player drafted into the WNBA.

The WNBA draft on Thursday didn t turn out as expected for projected first-round picks Arella Guirantes of Rutgers and Dana Evans of Louisville. But both guards said Friday they hoped their drop to the second round would motivate them.
Evans, projected at No. 6 by ESPN s final mock draft, went with the first pick of the second round to Dallas at No. 13. Guirantes, projected to go third, was chosen by Los Angeles at No. 22. I think they poked the bear, Guirantes said of the teams that passed on her, which actually included the Sparks with their two first-round picks. I m excited. I ve never ran away from a challenge. I think it just adds more to the story. So whoever has the pen, just keep writing.
