Missing fingers, severe burns : Dozens injured by fireworks

Dozens of people headed to metro emergency departments when firework explosions went wrong.Doctors, police and paramedics said several people lost fingers. Others suffered severe burns to their faces.At dusk Monday, the community will celebrate its last major fireworks show for the holiday weekend by lighting the skies at Field Club of Omaha Country Club. Emergency medical teams know many families also had celebrations in their own backyards, because unfortunately, some needed to be rushed to the ER for treatment of both major and minor injuries. We had a lot of patients that were transferred in from outside facilities that had traumatic injuries, Dr. Zach Bauman, trauma medical director at Nebraska Medicine, said.Late Sunday night, Bauman and his trauma team treated everyone from young kids to adults. (WOWT) - As we celebrate Earth Day, several new projects which aim to promote sustainability were announced throughout the area. In Valley, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Valmont Industries, where a four-acre solar farm has come to fruition after nine months of construction, and three years of planning. “It’s absolutely appropriate that we’re here during Earth Day to talk about the great work that our innovators and the folks that have conserved our environment have done here in Nebraska,” Gov. Pete Ricketts said at the ribbon-cutting.
