NEW DELHI: The Delimitation Commission tasked with carrying out delimitation of seats in respect of Union territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir, held its maiden meeting with associate members of the panel – the five MPs representing the UT in Lok Sabha on Thursday.
They wanted to elicit their inputs and suggestions regarding the process, though only two of the five MPs turned up.
While Udhampur MP and MoS, PMO Jitendra Singh and Jammu MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, both from the BJP, joined the meeting, the other three – former chief minister and Srinagar MP Farooq Abdullah, Anantnag MP Hasnain Masoodi and Baramulla MP Mohammad Akbar Lone, all three from National Conference - absented themselves. This despite they having been sent a written intimation by the delimitation panel as early as February 5, 2021.

NEW DELHI: The Delimitation Commission for Jammu and Kashmir held its first meeting on Thursday to seek suggestion/views on the process of delimitation in respect of the union territory.
An overview on the process of delimitation based on the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 and Delimitation Act, 2002 was presented before the members.
The meeting of the commission was attended by two of the five associated members – Union minister Jitendra Singh and BJP leader and MP from Jammu, Jugal Kishore Sharma.
The two members appreciated the commission’s efforts and suggested that delimitation of constituencies should be practicable. They also said that regard should be given to physical features, existing boundaries of administrative units, facilities of communication and public convenience.
