Over the years, I’ve always wondered why one of the most premier ski and recreation destinations in the Northeast - the Pocono Mountains - does not have passenger rail service.
Why should a weekend getaway to our area, or a commute from our area to New York City/North Jersey come with the side effects of being jammed inside rush hour traffic on Interstate 80 in New Jersey or even local congestion here in the Poconos.

A snow emergency will go into effect in East Stroudsburg Borough starting at 4 p.m. tonight and will last 24 hours.
Snow emergencies in the borough are declared to enable snow removal by public works crews on snow emergency routes.
Motorists should not park on snow emergency routes or on the wrong side of the street. Illegally-parked vehicles will be towed at the owner s expense.
Per borough ordinance, property owners must remove snow or ice the full width and full length of any sidewalk, walkway or foot way within 24 hours after the snow or ice has ceased to fall. Fire hydrants close to residential property should also be kept clear. Violations will be issued to residents who do not follow this ordinance.
