ALTOONA Pet owners are dealing with a cat food shortage. Many stores are having issues stocking canned cat food, and the problem appears to be connected to COVID-19.
According to Packaged Facts, a source for pet products and services market research, some 3.3 million new pets and counting have been welcomed into U.S. households since the start of the pandemic.
“The pet category has experienced increased consumer demand. Due to overall COVID-related disruption to the production of goods, it’s possible pet parents may not find a specific item or flavor of wet food for cats on the shelf on a given day. However, Petco locations carry a vast nationwide assortment of wet food for cats and have plenty of options readily available,” Petco spokesperson Ventura Olvera said.
Andrew Eichelberger’s recruiting visit to Lehigh back in 2014 seems oddly prescient now. When the Texas native came to Bethlehem, a snowstorm delayed the Mountain Hawks’ game, so he had to wait an extra day.
He clearly remembers the Kurtis Kaunas’ bouncer that won the game in triple-overtime, but it was his experience off the field that sealed the deal.
“The experience with the guys off the field was just as great. All the parents were super inviting and accepting of me and my dad,” he says. “I found my second family out here.”
Flash forward to early February 2021, and Eichelberger’s still in Bethlehem as a grad student, and he’s taken on the role of the inviting, mentoring figure to young players.
