County average gas price down

Rich Flowers/STAFF The decrease in Henderson County gas prices wasn’t big on on Monday, but at least it was pointed in the right direction for motorists who want to take advantage of the waning summer vacation season. The average price for a gallon of unleaded in Henderson County, on Monday, was $2.88.2. That’s a slight drop from $2.90 on July 1,according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million individual price reports taken from 150,000 gas stations across the country. The national average on Monday, was $3.14 per gallon.

Athens gas prices remain high

By Rich Flowers rflowers@athensreview.com Jul 3, 2021 5 hrs ago Athens area drivers will be paying some the highest prices in recent years as they head to the road for the Independence Day holiday according to reports from GasBuddy, which tracks what 150,000 stations around the country are charging. Although some parts of United States are paying more than $3 per gallon, Athens’ highest price remained below that mark on Thursday. The Murphy USA and Brookshire’s on East Tyler street were each showing $2.79. That was also the posted price at the Valero on Cayuga Drive. The cost at the Shell on East Tyler Street was just a bit more at $2.80.

Herrin Police investigate Wednesday shooting

HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) Police in Herrin are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital. It happened at about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of East Tyler Street. Police say when they arrived at the scene they found a 35-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital. Police found a single spent shell casing at the scene and are now asking residents in the area with video surveillance systems to notify them if those surveillance systems recorded anything that might help the investigation.  

Gas prices continue climb

May 14, 2021 May 14, 2021 Athens gas prices climbed another 20 cents over the past month as national costs are headed for their highest mark in over six years, according to the Monday report from GasBuddy.com. “We indeed may see some weeks with new records as Americans get in their cars this summer – but the question is how many will do so?” said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis. “That will determine how much higher prices will go.” Lowest Athens price for a gallon of regular, on Monday were $2.73 at both Brookshire’s and Murphy USA on East Tyler Street. The cost at each location was $2.52 on April 12.
